frees anti-Thai rioters Issued: 25 September 2003
The two had been convicted of offences including inciting racial hatred
and were jailed early this month. However, after a petition of their lawyer,
they received royal pardons from King Narodom Sihanouk. After the riots in January, Thai-Cambodian relations were greatly damage, with Thailand downgrading diplomatic relations with Cambodia. Relations were eventually restored in April after Cambodia government paid Thailand almost $6 million in compensation for the damage of Thai Embassy.
