Thai-Cambodia relations on the mend

Issued: 24 February 2003

Cambodia approaches to restoring diplomatic relations with Thailand following anti-Thai riots in Phnom Penh, according to Cambodia's Prime Minister, Hun Sen. Hun Sen used the Non-Aligned Movement summit held in Malaysia to be the first meeting between him and Thailand's Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinwatra since the anti-riots on January 29. On this meeting, he opened the issue of restoring ties with Thailand while focusing on normalizing matters such as the issuing of visas. The Cambodian leader said a meeting with Thaksin had been good and that Cambodia would now leave it to Thailand to restore diplomatic ties which were downgraded after the riots.
