police stood by during anti-Thai riots Issued: 26 February 2003 Cambodia's police admitted his officers stood by as the Thai Embassy was set on fire during anti-Thai protest in Phnom Penh last month. National Police Chief, Hok Lundy, said that his 300 officers were at the embassy when the incident occurred, but they chose not to stage a crack down in order to avoid bloodshed. Thai embassy and several Thai-owned businesses were badly destroyed by a group of protesters, leading to Thailand downgrading diplomatic ties and closing its border.
