A mysterious illness has appeared in Cambodia. The new unidentified type of pneumonia is reported to have killed seven people and 29 infected in poor and remote villages near the border of Vietnam.

The victims affected such mysterious illness are reported to have Sars-like symptoms including fever, coughing and breathing difficulty. However, unlike most Sars cases, patient also suffer diarrhea and maintain normal white blood counts.

According to a report by the World Health Organization, there is no evidence that this outbreak is in any way linked to the Sars.

Amidst the rising fear of the illness, Cambodian villagers turn to animal sacrifices and tribal prayers, believed to fight with this mysterious outbreak. Doctors from the public health authority Cambodia reach the people to give the right understanding and the proper protective ways against the sickness by administering antibiotics and other drugs as the supplementary precaution in their ceremonies.
